Relax. You hear me? RELAX!

We all know that running a business consumes your life. You’re making sure that all your finances are in order, making sure employees are doing their job correctly, and keeping customers happy all while executing the day-to-day tasks. Editor, Nicole Fallon from Business News Daily said it best, “Succumbing to stress and burning out might seem unavoidable when you’re responsible for so many business and personal obligations. But allowing yourself to get caught up in the stress can take its toll on your physical, mental and emotional health”. I know we’ve all be stressed at one point in our life, and it’s NOT fun. Our behavior changes and we start to make poor decisions. With being a business owner, you definitely wouldn’t want to make irrational decisions.

Taking Steps to Manage Stress:

Take care of yourself first.
Do what makes you happy! Read. Meditate. Journal. Sleep. Give your brain a break and let it wander without any structure. Do whatever is needed to ease your mind and spirit. Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is to not be productive. Work to live, don’t live to work (even if you’re an owner).

Focus on one thing at a time.
We’re naturally wired to multi-task in our everyday lives. From this experience, we know that sometimes multi-tasking could lead to chaos. As entrepreneurs, chaos is the last thing we would want to deal with. It can be time-consuming and can lead to making more mistakes. By focusing on one thing at a time, it allows us to concentrate and think more creatively about the solution. The more focused you are, the more productive and fruitful your work will be.

Focus on the positive.
Keeping a positive attitude isn’t just good for your health, but it’s great for your business. Killing ourselves for tasks we didn’t get done doesn’t help. Instead, we are far better off being grateful for all that we did do. The more we practice looking on the bright side of things, the less terrifying a stressful situation seems.

Be your own best critic.
Instead of being harsh and critical of yourself, try hyping yourself up! Encouraging thoughts will help motivate you to achieve and eventually train you to inspire others. It’s okay to self-criticize once in a blue moon in order to keep your feet grounded. It gives you the power to make positive changes through honest observation of your own performance.  But, too much self-criticism can harm your self-esteem possibly causing anxiety and depression. Find an even balance.
